Sorry so late...

I know it is uncanny for myself to not update this blog for so long but I at the moment have been really busy. With that being said I have met a few of my readers lately on sets and thank you once again for the kind words. The moral on these sets have picked up as of late which is always good. But it would be nice to have more projects, now with the rumor of the brotherhood ending it's last season and after the edge of darkness ends in December it seems there is nothing left. So let's sit back and see what 2009 holds.

My Best Friends Girl My Review..

So today I decided to check out My Best Friends Girl that filmed here last year. First of all awesome job NE actors you should be proud of yourselves GREAT JOB :) But as far as the movie goes....well......it's definately a renter, hate to say it but it wasn't that great. The most of my entertainingis to see if I can locate fellow actors that I know and there were many. CONGRATS! So hopefully the next few films coming down the pike won't be as dissapointing: Mall Cop Pink Panther 2 in Feb and Truth and The Box in March

Boston Casting Looking For Some Good People For "The Knowing"

Hello folks it came to my attention that Boston casting is looking for some people to play I believe MIT BG students for the movie the knowing. It is a Nic Cage film but Nic Cage will not be in town because from what I have heard this movie has already wrapped, and these are just addtional scenes. Good luck :)

Keep your political views home..

I was working on E.O.D just recently and here we are in holding for a few hours as usual and here we have someone preaching about which canadate we should choose. Now we all know which one we want to choose and that is our personal opinion, but do not tell us who to vote for. At one point one person yelled from across the room and told this guy to "end it" because this is "not the place for that", I totally agree. Keep that outside, we are here to work and have fun and no one needs that.

The Studios...Why so silent?

Lately we really have not heard anything about the to studios in Weymouth and Plymouth. I know Plymouth was approved, but what about Weymouth? Is it me or has everything gone silent, it's really funny to compare a year ago and now. It's like night and day. Any info that any of you like to share about this subject?

It seems it's getting slow again....

Compared to a year ago where we all had the pick of the litter on movie projects, this year it seems very dry. Sure we have Edge and the just wrapped Don Mckay, but that seems to be it as of now. Could be that other states are giving out bigger tax cuts to Hollywood? could be also. But all we can do is continue and take it one project at a time and see what the future brings.

Boston Movies are starting to roll out in theaters. CONGRATS TO ALL NE ACTORS!

Today "The Women", next week "My Best Friends Girl", Boston films are slowly appearing on the silver screen. This is an exciting time to be a NE Actor, and folks this is the begining, there are about another dozen or more films that will be on screen from now to mid 2009. So sit down chow on some popcorn and lets salute one another to job well done, we should all be proud. See you at the movies :)

Has Agency Pro Taken Out The FREE Option?

I don't know about you guys but has anyone out there been recieveing e-mails looking for availabilty from Boston Casting and they are telling you to log on to your Agency pro account just to see nothing?! Now I have not paid for this service but I do know one thing, even with a free account like many of us have out there you could see the calander and open events. So my question is did they take out the free option? What happened to just calling us and finding out?

Shortage of people vs. work?

Lately as I am sure we have all noticed there are more and more calls for work especially back ground work. Now I a pretty surprised as to how much demand there is compared to supply, so why is this the case? Could it be the money vs. time on the set? could it be some people have real jobs?, who knows but there is absolutely a shortage. What amazes me even more is there is such an over abundance of actors in this city. In the end there is a lot more openings on these projects. So when you get a call and you can make it please do, because when the demand leaves us, it might not be as rosey.

Don't Forget Don Mckay!

I know the big heavy hitters are in town (mel and bobby d) but there is also a small inde. Called Don Mckay with Elizabeth Shue and Thomas Church and I know they are looking for people. More projects more work...also Brotherhood in RI

Do Not Pay For Movie Information!!!

I just got word by one of my readers that there are sites out there that are chargeing people to recieve casting information. THAT IS A SCAM FOLKS! Most of us know that already, but there are some from what I understand are paying crazy money to get basic info that they can get anywhere. So if you know anyone that is about to do this stop them and guide them to plenty of free sites that offer the same thing. Many Thanks Michelle :)

Share Your Experiences On Edge Of Darkness

As always when a picture rolls into town we always like to see what your imput is towards your experiences on the set. So for those that have worked on Edge of Darkness please share, for those who have not...there lookin'

I am so happy to noticing more jobs for locals.

It seems there doesn't appear to be a day where we do not get an email for an audition, etc. Places like Boston Casting are constantly looking for people especially for Edge of Darkness. This is a great thing and I hope this continues, more chances, more jobs. If you haven't signed on to these casting agencies e-mail list blasts you are losing out, so after reading this sign up! Have a great weekend!

Is the fighter out for the count?

"The fighter" Starring Marky Mark and a rumored Brad Pitt slated to film in Lowell this september is very quiet...very quiet. My sources say that it is pushed back, it's not happening, victim of a non strike??? What ever the case is the listing for the fighter on IMDB is gone also, so who knows what we should all believe. It would be really nice to see this fim made about one of the best boxers to come out of MA. Mickey Ward which if you knew or not you might have already met him on several movie sets already this past year. Let's hope this movie comes to us soon because this project seems to have promise.

A Relief From What I Am Hearing

Well it seems inch by inch Massachusetts is going to become a main stay for Hollywood. Our state politicans are pretty much going to approve these two studios from what I am seeing and hearing. The movement from local actors young and old, new and vets to bring this to reality is simply Awesome it shows unity:) We got fighter, Darkness, Brotherhoods, etc coming so let's get this hot Hollywood ball rolling because we want it and it shows!

Boston is little dry hopefully not much longer.

It's amazing to see how dry things have been in the feature film biz here in Boston as of now. Because of that, I am sorry as I am not posting as much as I usually do because at the moment there really isn't that much to report. But with that being said that doesn't mean there is no work. Commercials, Industrials, small budget films are still out there so promote, promote, promote!!!! I will keep your eyes and ears open the moment news arrives.

SAG Strike close to NOT happening :)

I am hearing this morning that since AFTRA is getting things done with Hollywood, it looks as if SAG might follow suit and prevent a strike. If this happens all systems go for the roll of films to continue in MASS on schedule.

Doesn't sound too good acording to the Hearld.

This was in todays paper and it looks pretty bleak for Mass. if there is a strike ahead. Here is the link. http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/view/2008_06_20_Actors__strike_could_hurt_Mass__movie_biz/ Have a happy Holiday EVERYBODY!!!!! :)

Are there any Police Officers Out There Boston Casting is looking for some :)

Boston Casting is preparing for the upcoming feature "Four Single Fathers" shooting this month. In preparation for upcoming roles of Police Officers we're looking to compile a group of our local actors who have experience portraying Police Officers on camera, as well as current or former actual Police Officers in the area, or anyone who can accurately portray an officer on camera. If possible, please have a picture of you in uniform on your Agency Pro profile so that we may present the director with submissions. **WE WILL NOT BE MAKING SELECTS, ALL CHOICES WILL BE MADE BY THE DIRECTOR!** **PLEASE NOTE!!!** We will also be using this pool of actors in consideration of the OTHER upcoming feature "Edge Of Darkness" with Mel Gibson filming late summer which also has many Police roles as well. PLEASE! NO PHONE CALLS FOR THESE ROLES! If you are having trouble submitting to this event via Agency Pro you may send your submission ! to : greg@bostoncasting.com

Not Looking Good For Studios According To State Rep.

There is an article that was put in the Boston Herald from a state rep that just doesn't paint a great picture for future studios.. I just got the memo this morning and I will get that link of that article from the herald so you guys can read it. After reading it..it made me sick. So with that being said if anyone else has a link to this current article please post it. In the mean time I will try to locate it again myself. That goes to tell ya when it comes to politics..when something sounds too good it probably is.

brotherhood is back this summer.

from what i am hearing is that this production is not affected by the strike if it happens. if that is the case the original plan is that the show will be filming from july to sept. i will keep you posted on any new information. hollywood we need more tv shows here in new england!

When the Boston Film World is Dry Start Auditioning for Commercials / Industrials.

Not that it shouldn't be happening all the time. Some people mention to me they want to do film and that's it. My response is "you do everything because you do not know where anything can lead you." So with that being said make sure you have your headshots at every tv studio / casting director that deals with commercials. Because it's not only a quick and good gig, there is good money behind it also, I don't care if you union or not the money is great!

Everyone is rushing to finish their movies.

According to a report heard today it seems that many film and television productions including Scorsese's "Shutter Island" are rushing to finish their projects. The reason for the rush is the supposed SAG strike in a few days, I really hope this does not happen. My question is what happens to films like "surrogates" will that just shut down? Because that movie is slated to film here until August. If there is a strike lets hope it's quick. Hopefully Gov. Patrick's trip to Hollywood was effective and we can count on more pictures coming here.

Prince of Providence coming this August..

It seem if everything goes right (hopefully no strike) this August will host two major pictures The Edge Of Darkness and The Prince Of Providence with Robin Williams. I believe LDI will be casting for Prince but that is not official yet. I also had heard that if a stike does happen this project will not be affected, so I assume that is good. I will keep you informed in reguards to future

Thanks to those who played The Movie Dash Scavenger Hunt Yesterday!!

Just wanted to throw out a thank you to those who played the scavenger hunt yesterday in town because some of those people are readers on this blog. The weather was great, the game was wild and it was truly a great time so congrats to "The Brat Pack" for winning yesterdays event. For more info. on the game and other games we offer go to www.cashunt.com.

Leave the extra work behind and go for roles..

The whole idea about this thing we do is going for parts. If we continue to do extra work we will be extras for life. Always remember most major actors might have done an extra job here or there but they mostly went for the throat and did non-stop auditioning. The same holds true for us, if you want to succeed in this business, you go for the roles. But it's really not here in Boston, you have to make the sacrifice and go to NYC or LA. So if you have no responsibilites and can do it GO FOR IT!

The Latest Poll Results...

The latest poll had asked readers if SAG should make it harder to join 55% said no while 44% said yes. My opinion is they should make it a "tad" harder and from the last background meeting SAG had given in April it sounds as they are going to do so. What that exactly means we would have to wait and see, for those that joined SAG recently congrats! For the people that are looking to join I would do so before the rules change. As always please direct your attention to the right for the new poll.

Hey Cavemen!! More Funny Footage From Truth!

Ricky Gervais released even more footage from those great days on the cavemen set for the Karl documentary. Check it out here is the link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5p5cIyoF9I That was such a great day (even though it was freezeing with hardly any clothes on) it was so worth it! Enjoy! and to my fellow cavemen and to all our TRUTH friends! UGH! UGH! UGH!

Consider this the offseason..

Now that things have silenced a bit here in beantown. We all wait as to what is going to happen in the not for sure future, consider this the off season. This is the time where training should be kicked into high gear or new marketing campaigns should get a make over. If this is your only form of living and you have no work...get a day job because there is no telling as to when the strike will end. So sit back enjoy the next few months, do summer stock, dinner theater, etc. There is plenty of alternatives to choose from.

It's getting pretty dry out here, something we are not used to

Sorry it has been a few days since my last blog, but I must saying this blog has been pretty lively as of late. Mass. has gotten a little dry other than ashcliffe and surrogates everything else is gone, as if it was a dream. Let's just hope this feeling does not last and we get a second wind for the rest of 2008. I know with strikes looming things might get stale but I hope that is only temp. Some people have asked me what do I think about the studios coming here? I love it and I hope that it happens, but it's up to the politicans. I know that there are protests, and petitions, etc. But one thing I know is that the "power of the people" is in a weak state right now, it is really to the higher ups. Remember when it comes to the top dogs they want to know what's in it for them, it's all about money sometimes. All we can do is shout and inspire the movement, but unless your hat is in the ring your a nobody to some of these people.

Portions of the SAG strike my be resolved sooner than later.

What I have heard as of late is that the upcoming strike might not be as long as some people are projecting. Certain aspects have already been cleared. So, with that being said it might no be as long as a process as the previuos writers strike. I think that strike did so much damage that SAG probably does not want to go down that road but we will see.

You guys should take a look at NEfilm.com if you haven't yet.

Nefilm.com has been around for sometime now, and is a great outlet for jobs. No matter what kind of job you are looking for in this industry they usually cover all bases. Just a big note there is a new agency that I am getting word is the lastest scam. I am waiting for more information on this "agency" and I will do my homework to see if it is actually true, being that this agency is from out of town. I'll keep you posted.

Debates are to be debated not cursed at.

This blog is meant to inform, educate, and at times be controversial. I had put an blog yesterday in regards to the opinions of how SOME new sag members treat other people on the set ( and I am not saying the old don't do it. I just hate it either way when I and many more see it.) Now with that being said I don't mind criticism to myself or even debates I find them healthy, but what we got was a Firestorm of a war on both sides of the subject. To the point there were very harsh words between to unknown commentors, at that point I did the best thing and pulled the whole blog out. Now I will say this once and that's it if we raise a subject to debate it should be healthy and we should see all sides. But the moment I see a threat or a very ugly exchange you will be kicked off. I don't care about criticism, everyone is entitled to their opinions. But the things that are brought up on this blog are from the new and from the old that approach me and tell me what's o

Central Booking is your place if you are looking for Crew jobs.

I get e-mails weekly as to where is the best place to submit themselves for future crew work. The best place I know of is is Central Booking, for a fee they will have you on file for future jobs. Always keep in mind once you get used and you are good enough, your phone will continue to be ringing. Keep on with it once you do deal with them. for more info go to their website.

For those people who played cavemen in "Truth"

To all my fellow cavemen that played in "This side of the Truth", first of all hope you all are doing well. If you might remember other than the actual movie being filmed Ricky was filming a small documentary about his friend Karl. The following video is behind the scenes of those actual days we had worked, it was just shown on the BBC. enjoy it:) UGH! UGH! UGH! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9t4ICzdKqw

Facebook has become a really great outlet for networking.

Facebook has become the "IT" place to network with other entertainment co workers here in Boston. There are many groups and events that always get posted so I reccomend you attend them if you want to net work with other people. If you haven't signed up to facebook, I suggest you do. For those that are already on facebook continueing your networking.

A really cool book about Boston movies..

I was just in a borders bookstore today and as I was leaving I saw a book which I should have picked up called.......oh my god I forgot! Great, I will let you know when I find out the title, but it's all about movies that have been filmed in boston! It is such a great book because it tells you about all the movies that have been filmed here and all the hub bub that came along with the productions. I should have picked it up but I was in a rush, skimmed right through it and I was like WOW! I can't believe I forgot the title but it was something like backdrop boston or something like that, when I go back to that book store and pick it up and let you know the title.. It would be a book I am sure all of you will love. I REMEMBER It's "Big Screen Boston" PICK IT UP!

The curtain is begining to close...for now.

All films have either wrapped or are wraping except for "The Surrogates" which a lot of people have not worked on because of specifics they are looking for. Now at the end of the month we have the strike that could either be good and end quickly or do some serious damage for future projects. So lets refelect on a great first part of the year and lets hope and pray for a just as great second half. But in the meantime you serious actors out there piviot yourself towards theater. Because any artist can tell you in any field of the arts "there is never any completion in training in the arts". There is plenty of work summer stock, summer theater, etc. Anyone can walk across the screen or be a party guest, or be a cop, etc, etc, etc. But theater you are thrown into the fire and that's true acting, that is if you are serious about this craft.

The Poll Has Ended & the "TRUTH" wins

In our recent poll as to "what has been your favorite movie set this far? No surprise "This side of the Truth" wins , and I agree with that win fully. Like I had mentioned before in a previous post, it certainly was a great and fun set to work on. To my surprise was that mall cop came in second. (I would personally say "The Proposal") The reason for that was there were a lot of people that did not like that set (Mall Cop), and the negative press it got on treatment. I had worked on that set for 2 days and really saw nothing that wrong, but I guess many did. So once again thank you for placeing your vote and take your attention to the right side of the blog for the latest survey.

It's not all about acting my friends.

The entertainment business is a huge business and if someone was to tell me that there is no work out there, well my friends you are not trying hard enough. There are plenty of jobs in the movie business but it's not all about acting. Do you want to be in the movie business and make it a full time career well look in other avenues (casting, crew, make up, locations, coaching, etc.) the list is long. The head of the film commission had said in a recent expose that there were "plenty of jobs and not many people to fill them". What! that amazes me. These jobs can I say are fantastic and I mean fantastic paying jobs, so if you have no reposnsibilities GO FOR IT! you can always do the acting thing on the side. Always remember one thing many people working behind the scenes were former actors. Start looking because you do not an I mean do not want an opportunity to pass you by, especially in a HOT market.

The Nothshore has become it's own little hollywood back lot.

Sorry guys it took me a few days to post but I have been trying to relax and I am busy at the same time. We are in our 8th year of our scavenger hunt business and "knock on wood" our busiest year to date, which is great. So that has got me pleasently busy. Back to movie world...what is happening to the North Shore Folks! I turn I see Bride Wars in Salem I turn the other way I see Proposal in Danvers I go to get a burger in Lynn I hearing Brucy Willis will be in Lynn in a day, out of all places. This is really cool North Shore!!! and the best is it's really cool for the local ecconomy. If the state could just see how this movie rush is helping, that alone should be more reason to up the ante on the credit percentage and the studios. Georgia 30%!!!, New York 30%!! Let's get moving MASS!!!!!!!

Today's Herald was interesting.

So today I am looking through the herald and I happen to be looking through the Inside Track. On that page they had this pretty long article in regards to extras and their treatment on sets. Which sets were good, which sets were not, how much money these sets spend and how they waste money on just "fooling around" etc, etc, etc. After I read that article I really just stood there and shook my head. Now I guess that stuff is fine to talk about through co-workers, but a major paper. That's a differnt story. I don't know if it was the way I was reading it but it really didn't paint a nice picture of things here in Mass. Now I don't know who they talked to, but it showed how novices they were "long hours, cooked up in a tent ,etc." To those that are new a say that type of stuff, suck it up. No one said this business was glamourous, it is a lot of hurry up and wait and those are the ropes. If you don't like it move on, do something else. Thi

Favoritism in Boston?

Matt S. wanted me to post the answer to his his question and the answer is some people are favorites to certain agencies. Is that fair? Of course not but it has been happening for ages. My opinion is everyone should get a crack, because the "no-one" my just be better than "the favorite" remember most dark horses win races. So to my "non favorite" friends, push the envelope and market yourself the correct and suttle way where you do not become annoying. Because remember everybody this is a small city and annoying names get remembered, and that is not a good thing. Remember if you really want it, you can become it no matter what the occupation. Want to make a note that I will having a 4 to 5hr seminar based on this blog this summer that talks about getting ahead in this business with a no holds bared type of way which is how this business should be presented. The correct presentation of how to start or be in this business is what should be delivered,

Guys, you are sending emails to the wrong person.

Good afternoon everybody! Just want to make a small note as to my e-mail address. For some reason most of you either think I am Jodi Purdy or you have reached her casting agency. I don't know who gave my address out claiming I am her, so my e-mail is full with people requesting work. I wish I could give you all work, but first I am not her and second we are not a casting agency. As far as my e-mail goes, sure e-mail me with the questions, comments, etc, the usual stuff. thanks and please spread the word.

New Faces Being Used Only?

I just recieved an email from someone that was concerned that she had heard that certain casting directors are using only "New Faces". My response to that would be that would be untrue. The reason why I say that is if that was the case, each set you would go on would have a brand new crop of people, and that is not the case. What you do see is more of the same faces over and over again, plus there is a pretty big shortage to spread around on multiple projects. So no need to worry, all is well in the casting world, just because one doesn't choose you the other will.

The recent poll that was given on this Blog..

After 19 days the survey read "what is your union affiliation" and most of my readers are either non-union or just fresh SAG members. I was amazed at the the numbers of current vet SAG members, where are you guys?! To my the new people that just got in the business and the new SAG players, welcome. To the new SAG members, remember honor the membership do not abuse it and always seek a mentor that has muchmore experience than yourself you will learn a lot. If you abuse the membership and go around saying "your SAG and you can do whatever you want" remember this community is small and you will make a bad representation of yourself especially with people you will be working with many times over again. Enjoy it and respect it. To my non-union players, welcome aboard in this exiting time and learn hands on how it is on these movie sets. It is the greatest lesson, DO NOT get suckered in photoshoots, classes, agencies, etc. do your homework and keep most of your mo

Learn a monologue right NOW!

Look we all want the job but nothing says prepared for an audition more than having a monologue at a moments notice. It doesn't matter what kind... comedy or drama, you will know which one fits you best. The reason why it's good is because if you go to an audition and at some uncalled for moment the casting director asks "do you have a monologue prepared?" and you respond "yes!" Not only does that make you look prepared but most importantly.. professional. So after you read this blog run out and buy a book on monologues today and memorize the one that fits you best. Have a nice weekend!

Are future films in jeporady because of looming strike?

That is a question really no one knows and is asked quite often. If there is a strike and it does last as long as the writers strike does, that will be a problem. But let's hope everything gets resolved by next month so the ongoing traffic of movies continues here in our very cool state. strike,

The Truth Gets High Marks All Around! Fantastic Experience !

I just want to say I just did 3 days on "This side of the Truth" as a caveman. All I can say in doing this for almost 20 years, this by far was the best set I have ever been on. That might be big words but it is the truth. From the casting to the crew to the background we had a hell of a funny time working on this set. There have been other sets that have been pretty friendly but this one takes the cake. Everybody was approachable, the crew and the background got "in my eyes" along extremely well, something you usually don't see that often. The best part was after we wrapped we had an impromtu soccer match it was the crew (including Ricky) vs the cavemen. We lost 1-0 due to a goal from Ricky himself! Simply fantastic, please know great friends were formed and an amazing experience was made that will last in our memories for long time. Cheers Ricky and the crew and to all my fellow cavemen "UGH!, UGH!"

"Lightkeepers" to Hyannis This August

The Lightkeepers,” a romantic comedy starring Martin Sheen, Blythe Danner and Chris O’Donnell, just got greenlit and cameras will roll on the Cape in August. No casting agency has been announced but I will let you know the moment it arrives.

If your new to this.. go to the vets.

When you work on a movie set the first time being on set it can be a overwhelming , scary but an exciting experience by far. The best people I always stay close to are the vets that have been around the scene. Now when I say vets I am not talking about people that have been doing this for the past 3 years, they are not vets. They are as new as you pretty much. The vets are the people that have been around 15+ years, they have the experience and the knowledge of past present and future and in most part know what they are talking about, and they make great mentors. Now I know, some of these vets might give you the cold shoulder, so if that happens "bleep" them and go to someone that would make a good mentor and learn from them. There is plenty. If someone that has been around for a few years and all they teach you is about themselves...walk away....please walk away, it's no good. So as they always say in most occupations learning hands on is the best way, and I agre

Want to say something or promote something on this blog.

If you are a professional in the relms of teaching, casting, photographer, event, etc. and you want to make an annoucement/promote or just want to post a postive issue or concern about the business please let me know. This blog reaches a quite a few readers and keeps growing each and every month, so if you have anything to get the word out this would be one of the best places to do it. Just e-mail me at bostonmovieextra@yahoo.com along with your e-mail and let me know what you want to include, we then will send you a co-author email, so you can post anytime you want. Let's contribute as much information to this community as we can, it's the mission of this blog.

Make sure you don't commit to two casting directors at the same time!

We have to all know that we are all lucky to be in this business in the first place. So obviously we get excited when we get called from a casting agency looking to book us for a gig. But when a casting director books you for let's say 3 days 2 weeks from now, you are booked with that agent. Do not double book with another agent if they want you for the same 3 days because "you would rather work on that project". You work on the one you committed on first and kindly say to the second agent"thank you but I am already booked those days, but please don't forget about me because I am interested." You will be respected and in this business it goes a long way, if you don't respect it that also goes a long way.

When it comes to entertaiment consultants please do your Homework!

It's always an exciting thing when something like the big movie boost happens to your home state such as us. So when that happens a lot and I mean A LOT of people want to get in on it. So like I mentioned a couple of posts ago that means not to start off with one of these "Mickey Mouse Agencies", you market yourself on your own. There are people there to guide you the right way, but these Legitimate people are few and far in between. These people are known as entertainment consultants that know the state's entertainment business inside and out for years. They are not the people that started in this business within the last couple of years and are self-proclaimed "experts". These people will build you in the right way also guiding you in the right direction all the while saving you a bunch of money, which is their mission. Their consultation is really 1 or even 2 sessions not more than that and after that they throw you in the fire giving you the exper

Sets Get The Thumbs Up!

After looking at the recent poll that was taken this past week, everyone except one person feel that the treatment on sets have been great! I agree with that result very much because like I had mentioned in a previous post the crews, sets, etc have been terrific and continue to do so. So to those crews and all the people that are involved... Thank You Always You Guys Are GREAT! As always thank you for those who voted, now please direct your attention to the right with our new online poll.

Reaction To Last Night's SAG Background Meeting

I heard last night's meeting went very well from the reaction that I have been hearing today. I wish I was there because I had a few questions of my own to present to the board, but I'm sure others had the same questions. I unfortunately wrapped late and I really could not have made it, if I knew it was going 4 hrs instead of 2 I would have. Over all the feedback was terrific and a lot of questions were answered but the question is when will they be put forth. If you did attend last nights meeting, do you feel that all answers were given or is there more smoke to be cleared?

Don't Listen To The Radio....

Have you ever been in a situation where you are driving and you suddenly hear this ad "Want to be in movies? Major casting agents from WB, MGM, etc, etc are going to be in town...etc, etc" First of all don't pay attention and change the channel!!!!! It is a SCAM! These so called "agencies" are there to pray on "dreamers" with glamour and putting stars in their eyes while blinding people and their parents. They will make you do these way overpriced classes and photoshoots, and who loses in the end is..... YOU! Obviously they always win. The best way to promote yourself in by doing Gureilla Marketing by submitting your headshots to projects and casting agencies. It is much cheaper and it is direct, but please do not get sucked in on these "hotel agencies" scams, you and your wallet will regret it in the end.

SAG Background Town Meeting

My fellow SAG brothers and sisters please try to make your best attempt to attend the SAG background Town Meeting. It will discuss contracts, conditions and much more that deal with our everyday actions on these sets. So if you can make it, please do so and make your voice heard.

Great Sets, Great People, Great Time!

I have to say that lately I have been so impressed by all the current sets that are filming in the State. What is so great is that most of these sets are very upbeat and enjoyable to work on. Productions like "Ghosts", "Proposal", and "Truth" to name a few are really great experience by far. The crews are nice the people are nice,so what else can you ask for when you are working on these 12+ hr sets. The worst thing about this business is when you get comfortable on a particular set, make some great friends and eventually you have to move on. You form some sort of family (not to sound corny)with these people and that makes it pretty special. Currently I have been working on The Proposal this past week and have made friends with some great individuals Jen , Jen, Dominick, Clayton, and my Greek partner in crime Angelo. We have been a team for the past week and a strong one to say the least on this particular scene we have been filming. Sometimes it&#

Changing Your Name...You Might Regret It.

People have asked me my opinion as to changing their actual name to a more "professional name". I really do not think it is a great idea because I had done it with my own name. When my agent at the time ie. 19years ago told me it would be more "marketable" because my last name is "too long" I took his advice....I was young and naive . Just know when you do such a thing you are branded with that name and if you decide to go back to your normal name years after, you are basically starting over. Which you do not want to do. Bottom line if you are good, people will remember your normal name, no matter how long , how weird, etc. Just think of some of current actors past and present and think how many elementary teachers butchered their last name. Arnie anybody :) Be who you are and be proud of it. :)

Keep the jobs coming!

Th latest Poll Has Closed and Here Are The Results

Our last poll had asked if you had some money to spend on yourself to enhance your career/ hobby in this business, what would you spend it on? What came in first is joining the union, second: classes and third: coaching. As far as the union goes that sounds good, it's a good goal to reach, but remember do as much non-union jobs as you can before joining. The reason for that is when you join the union, you obviously can not turn back. As far as the classes go do your research before you spend your hard earned money on a class, read the class reviews etc. If you do your homework on the class you want to attend, it will be time well earned. As always thank you for voteing and now please vote on our new poll on the right.

Yulk! Yulk! Yulk! There are Stooges Coming To RI!

This has been a rumor for sometime and now I am hearing that it's very close to coming into RI. It is from what I'm hearing a Redue of The Three Stooges, now I am really not big into redues of films ie. Psycho, Casino Royale, etc. but hey it's work! Now the guys from "Something about Mary" and "Fever Pitch" are doing this so it should be somewhat funny. The only question is with a strike looming overhead, I hope this doesn't become a production victim. I will keep you posted when I hear more info. There are films currently today that are short on people... so submit your headshots to them DO NOT BE LEFT OUT! I will talk to you guys soon....

Really Psyched About This Bruce Willis Film.

Word is that "The Surrogates" will start filming here next week, and Bruce has been spotted all around Boston. All I can tell you is that I am so psyched about this picture because at least in my memory for being in this business for close to 20 years I never heard of a sci-fi film this big come into Boston. Usually up till now it was mostly period pieces ie. Little Women, School Ties, Kennedy's of Massachusetts, Amistad, then it got a little urban ie. Civil Action, The Firm, etc. Now we have all kinds of different films but not a big sci-fi film! I am just really interested in how they are going to do it here because it is based on a comic book.

I thinks when there is inflation...things should change when it comes to background payment

I was just recently on a few sets as probably most of all of you have been and I got to talking with a few people. I met this woman that had come all the way from NJ to work on a film here in town. Now some people might say she is Union and she is doing this to collect her 72 days to get insurance, nope... she was non union. Now what she and others were getting paid is $65/8, that's pretty low especially for her that wouldn't even cover her gas! Now this woman's situation is a bit over the top, because she lives 4 states away. But anyhow the point of this is with everything from gas to the cost of living here in Mass Union and Non-Union alike are getting paid a little low for most people's standards. Now you can say to me "Chris...we are getting paid just to be on a movie set and sit around, why not?" This is true but how much did it cost you to get there? gas, tolls, maybe even parking? Now take out the taxes and subtract your expenses and what are yo

Improv groups and training

I think one of the funniest and effective types of training is improv training. Improv training will sharpen your instincts to acting in a dramtacic and comedic setting. There are plenty of improv groups out there but the best would be the improv asylum. First check out their show and see if it is something you would want to learn..I'm sure after a performance it will inspire you to do so.

Congratulations to the winner Boston Casting!

As you might notice every week we put a new survey to this blog covering different topics. This past week the survey was "who is your favorite casting agency" and the winner is....(drum roll please) BOSTON CASTING! winning by a nose from LDI Casting. So thank you for those of you that voted a please look at our new poll on your right.

I tip my hat to the "Truth".

Today I had the experience to work on the new Ricky Gervais "This side of the TRUTH" in Andover. It was a short and nice shooting day under a nice warm sun. What was cool was that I got to meet some of the readers of this blog and was flattered to hear the positive responses. I just want to say a huge thank you that you continue to enjoy this blog. My mission with it, is to infrom you, answer any questions I can possibly help you with, and talk about the goings on in the world of Hollywood East. So I tip my hat to you guys, I wish you all the best of luck and I will see you soon.

You should attend the film network mixers.

The best thing to do in this business is to network and now with the power of the internet, it easier to get the word out. Right now folks if you realize this or not we are in a historic moment when it comes to films in Massachusetts. So with that being said there are a host of different network mixers for crews, local actors, etc. Once you get word of these meetings you should attend in order to promote yourself and speak your mind, if you don't speak your mind...you won't be heard. So go onto facebook join these groups and get involved. As far as a union members go, attend these conservertory meetings because they are informative. I will be the first to say that after being union I never attended these meetings but since I have and I love it! In other words lets take advantage of the opportunities when they come to you, because if no one goes...they will end.

No Word on "Hickory Nation" as of yet.

When the writers strike took place early this past year it also claimed a few victims in productions. One of them was "Hickory Nation" that was targeted to film in Massachusetts. Due to that strike, it was temporally put on hold, it still plans to film here but there is no word as of yet as to when.

30% Credit For New York? Did I Hear That Right?

Just yesterday I was on the set and one of the big discussions was that NY was going to put a 30% credit for all films filmed in New York. If that is the case that is not good news for films coming into Mass. I assume this is speculation and just rumor but if this is true it will be devastating. Has anyone else heard of this? Anyhow let's just pray that this is rumor and not fact. Let's get those studios in Weymouth and Plymouth made!!!!

Film Location Managers/Scouts.

Does anyone know of a person that happens to be a film location scout out there? If so, please get back to me asap. Thanks:)

Angels & Demons Coming To Mass????

I just heard today about a rumor floating around town, that the book by Dan Brown and the prequel to the Davinci Code would be filming a few scenes in Mass! Again this is rumor, but has anyone else heard of this rumor also?

Prince of Providence coming to RI.

Another big film is coming to RI..word is light as of late but keep your eyes open on this. Right now rumored is R.Crowe for the lead and late Nick Cage's name is being thrown around but nothing is official yet. I will keep you posted.

Marketing yourself as an actor FOR FREE!

When it comes to marketing yourself as an actor I always say look for freebees! The best way to turn is websites like Facebook , Linked In, Myspace, I would say the best would be facebook. The reason why is because your networking and the tools that they offer are just great! Also there are many boston events that involve boston talent that are posted, so sign up today to all of them. Now when it comes to business cards with your picture on it etc. Well it's good to give to other actors just to keep in touch, but when it comes to casting directors the only place they go is in the trash. To my union brothers and sisters get yourself on IACTOR!!!! I am amazed that some of you are not on that service, go to www.sag.org and join right now!!! As always questions, coments, etc email me at bostonmovieextra@yahoo.com

Going to work on a film and not being used.

This type of thing happens sometimes on film sets, but it is Not the casting directors fault. As a matter of fact it is no ones, it just how things happen. Remember in the extra world it's a numbers game. The director asks the casting director for 45 extras tommorrow 20 men 20 women and 5 children, so the casting director has to deliver. Once the people have been confirmed it's up to the director himself as to how and who he is going to use. Maybe all will be used and maybe few will. I know it is aggravating it's happened to me also, BUT do yourself the favor and DO NOT complain to the casting director! Again the Casting Director did their job and delivered the goods. Bottom line and a rule I always follow for many years and that is don't complain because if you do you might see that your phone won't be ringing.

Another Open Call On Bruce Willis Picture

There will be an open call this Saturday for the new Bruce Willis film shooting here in Beantown! IF YOU WENT TO THE FIRST OPEN CALL YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND THIS ONE. This is the info... The open call will be held Saturday, April 12 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at: Boston University George Sherman Union- Metcalf Hall 775 Commonwealth Ave- 2nd Floor Boston, MA 02215 They are seeking performers to portray ages 18-30 who are athletic, attractive, and energetic individuals.

Brush up on your acting on smaller projects.

There are always acting jobs out there, but it's not always the big Hollywood pictures out there. It's the smaller ones. There are a lot of smaller non-union acting jobs on smaller film projects which is good for training and getting your name out there. These jobs might not always offer pay but they will offer you a dvd of the project, which is great for your acting reel to distribute for marketing yourself. It's a sacrafice but it pays off in the future, everybody starts somewhere. So where do you look for those jobs? You look at websites like NEFILM.com and creigslist under film and video. So take a peak and break a leg!

Ashcliffe Wins While The Box Loses...

Our latest survey asked our readers as to what everybody's favorite recent Boston based set did they love. First came Ashcliffe which was followed by Pink Panther 2 Bachelor #2, The Women and The Box. Looks like Marty has another win in his cap :). Our next survey is up so please vote. Thanks for joining in on the fun!

When it comes to headshots Get Protected!

If that time has once again come up and you want to freshen up your headshot, go for it. There are many cool photographers out there and they take amazing photos, BUT do your home work PLLLEEEAAASSSEE! The reason why I say that is you should really compare and contrast each of your favorite photographers and see their feedback, their quality and their price. Most importantly make sure you own the photo(s) when it's over. Do not sign anything that gives the photographer the right to own your photos..or it will bite you right in the butt, I swear. You should have free reign as to what you do with your photo(s) where you want to reproduce them, etc. Because if you do give the photographer ownership he will be the only one to reproduce them , etc. Now I am sure some of you are saying....DUH! that is obvious! Well to some of you yes but for many others they always get bit by this especially newcomers, so keep your eyes out. Like I always say if it doesn't smell good...don'

Boston SAG Speak Up on April 7th

On April 7th the SAG Conservatory will be having a meeting at Park Plaza in the evening. This is an important meeting for the whole Boston SAG body because Donna Summer will be there to listen to all. Now if you have been on a set and you have been dyeing to ask something that is bothering you this is your moment. If you can't make it for other commitments that fine obviously, but if you don't it's our duty united that we speak up and attend. Because if this doesn't happen that the usual of usual continues to happen complaints, complaints, complaints on sets and more of "why isn't Sag doing anything about this." It's a couple of hours of your time to mingle with friends and voice your concern or applause . I will be there for both, so please attend what I would and others would call an important meeting.

Is there a possibillity of an actors strike ahead?

I get this question at times in my e-mail and the answer is as of now NO. There has been indication through the media outlets if the past 8 months of a SAG strike in June. If SAG find a resolution at that time...no worries, if they don't they will probably strike. If that happens will that delay productions? I can't answer that question but I think that would. Let's all taake this day to day and enjoy the work that is coming our way, and when that day comes we will cross that bridge also. If you have questions, comments, or advice about your wedding please feel free and e-mail me at bostonmovieextra@yahoo.com

Support The Act To Bring The Studios To Mass.

As most of us know there is rumor of studios coming to either Plymouth or Weymouth or even both. This is exciting but it is not full proof yet until we do our part. So one individual and new friend Chuck Slavin is leading the way, for our voices to be loud and make Hollywood make a permenant rest here in Boston. You want jobs? well we have them now but you will have many more if this goes through. So log on to www.chuckslavin.com for more info. If you have questions, comments, or advice about your wedding please feel free and e-mail me at bostonmovieextra@yahoo.com

Plenty of jobs out there folks!

If you ever wanted to work in the film business / entertainment business this is your time to a shine. From what was recently said from the MFO is that there are plenty of jobs and not that many people. So if you are a makeup artist, crew person, actor, etc. Or you wanted to change occupation find out where the jobs are. Most jobs posted for crew are listed on criegslist under film/tv or you can approach agencies that hire crew. There are many jobs when it comes to filming one single movie but when it comes to the projected 12 this year, there is plenty to go around. If you have questions, comments, or advice about your wedding please feel free and e-mail me at bostonmovieextra@yahoo.com

Tell Tale a really nice experience.

I had just worked on Tell Tale just recently and I must say that it was a pleasent set to work on. Brian Cox and Josh Lucas must go on my friendly actor list really professional and nice people all together. I just want to mention that because there are many sets people hate and some that people love, so this in my opinion was one of the better ones. If you also had pleasent experience on this project please let us know.

People agreeing to work and not showing up.

I was on a project yesterday (Mall Cop) which was a nice experience and worked with nice people. What amazed some people is that there were a few no-shows, what I had said to them is don't be too surprised because this happens more than you think. When that happens that screws a lot of people up first the production because they are expecting their numbers for that day, and people that actually wanted to work that day. So if you can't make it on that project for any reason please call the casting director the day prior so they can fill in your spot. It's the best thing you can do in that situation to still be good with the casting directors and the production.

21 My views on this film.

I just watched the movie 21 last night based on the book "bringing down the house". I went to see it for two reasons being that it was filmed in Boston and I worked on it and second that I had read the book. The good news Boston was shot fantastic and big props to that and the Boston actors that were used in the film GREAT JOB! Also the movie was entertaining but it draaaagggged. The Bad news if you read the book it was a big disappointment, other than the concept and a few scenes here in there, the book was much, much different than the film. The book was ten times more entertaining and suspenseful and I wished they filmed a big chunk of that story not the story they put on that screen. Of course this is my opinion but I would say unless you want to see it because you worked on it or because of the Boston scenes...wait for the dvd.

Mr. Pitt Coming To Beanywood?

Well there are rumors that one of the big movies coming to Massachusetts this Fall is "The Fighter" starring Mark Wahlberg and Mr. Brad Pitt. The story is about famous Lowell boxer Micky Ward. This is not official as of yet but Brad Pitt is rumored to be in this one. Just add two more big name stars to the roster of A-list talent coming into Massachusetts this year!

Great Expose Tonight I Tip My Hat!

I just finished watching the WCVB program Chronicle that only talked about Hollywood East. All I can say what and exciting expose, it truly makes it an exiting time in Boston's history. Soundstages, 12 films for 2008, etc, etc. I don't know where to begin, but this should put a big smile on all of our faces. Did you see the program and if you did what are your thoughts?

Hollywood East Expose On Chronicle Tonight!

DVR or Tivo chronical tonight at 7:30 where they will be having an expose on the big Hollywood boom that is happening in our beloved Bay State. I think we will be see more and more of these exposes as the boom continues. So remember 7:30 tonight on channel 5 WCVB. Tell me your thoughts on the piece. As always if you have any questions or comments you can email me at bostonmovieextra@yahoo.com

You wanna be in the pictures kid? This is your chance.

Could someone pinch me...OUCH! ...thanks..wait we ARE in Boston because it feels like New York?!?! When was the last time where you actually had a choice of which movie you want to work on? Seriously when was it? I will tell you when it was...Never! This is great for the whole film community here in Boston, simply fantastic. There is work for everyone for actors, for crew, for casting directors, for scouts, you name it. For those that wanted to get into the business, really now is the best time. The opportunities are endless, you just got to want it and beat the pavement a bit, but I will promise most of you, you will get a call. So what that means is, when there is a open call and they are suggesting that you attend it other than sending a photo in, that means something. Listen to the request and act on it (no pun intended). So let's go out in force, let's show Hollywood what Boston has and let's have fun doing it. Because in the end that's what it is all ab

Working as a PA a good way in.

If you could care less about acting and want to work behind the camera a good way to start is becoming a production assistant. Sure it is a little bit of a thankless job but it will keep giving you work and you can elevate yourself to higher levels. To those who think PA's don't like there job..well some do and some don't. The ones that do will tell you that they work most of the shoot and are looking for a higher position. For example a 2nd assistant director makes roughly $2000 a week, hard work but great money. If you are looking to work crew sign up at central booking here in Massachusetts As always if you have any questions or comments you can email me at bostonmovieextra@yahoo.com

POSTPONED! On Open Call This Saturday

Please watch this blog as to the open call that was posted today. I guess from what I'm hearing is that it's not happening. So please do not got to Felt this Saturday. I will update you the moment I get news.

Open Call On Bruce Willis Film This Saturday!

CP Casting is holding an open call Saturday at Felt for “The Surrogates,” a Disney sci-fi flick starring Bruce Willis that begins shooting here in the spring. Tentative casting time is noon to 4 p.m. Stay tuned for further details.

Agents. do you really need one here in Boston..

This poses to be a good question when I hear it. The answer is yes and no. No if you are planning not to take this that seriously and you want to extra and stand in work. You can promote yourself. But if you want to audition for speaking roles for major films coming into town then the answer is yes. These agents mostly get paid on commission so it is their goal to find you work. Best agency in Boston is Maggie Inc. but I believe you have to be in the union.

The Egos of Some Extras (Reprise)

The reason for this addition of the blog is to answer the question as to why I took off the Extra's Ego Blog out. The reason I took it out is quite simple the heat that was being collected on both sides of the issue was a little strong. Which I do not find correct even to the point I was called a hypocrite, which I find comical. The reason why I wrote is because if anyone was to tell me that egos of extras do not exsist on a set I would say are either blind or are lying. To that person that made the comment, first I respect that comment but I tell the truth in regards to what exsists on the sets here in Boston. From the cliques in the community to the favoritism that is also visible. So if you don't like the truth, that's fine. But I tell it like it is and others would agree. This blog is simply to inform, educate, discuss, and understand this rare occupation we call the movie business. With this blog you do not have to agree with me, but at least understand it. Th

To join SAG or not to join SAG.

I have been a proud member of SAG for 20 years now and I happen to love it. People ask me if they should be SAG because they are "a must join". My answer to that is if you want to do a few Non-Union projects for the experience then don't join as of yet, because you will not be allowed to if you are SAG. If you want to join SAG, know that it is a good thing the pay is better and the opportunities get a little better too, you just have to work at it. But please, please, please do not risk your SAG membership by doing NON-UNION work you will be found out. If anyone has opinion on this especially SAG members voice your opinion. As always if you have any questions or comments you can email me at bostonmovieextra@yahoo.com

Ricky Gervais To Film in Lowell!

Ricky Gervis of "Extras" and "The Office U.K.) Fame is set to direct the film "This Side of the Truth" in Lowell Mass this Spring. In the cast are Jennifer Garner, Rob Lowe, Ricky Gervais. No casting agent has been booked yet, but we will let you know when that becomes official. Jot down another film for Mass!!!

Dodgeing the Camera?

Why in the world would someone that was working as an extra be dodging a camera? I couldn't understand that when it was told to me, I thought the primary goal was to be seen? Isn't that right? Well it came to my attention that some actors when they are cast as extras unusually will find a way to dodge the camera. The reason why they do this is to get more days on the set. Ok, I can understand that to a point that you want more work, BUT! the more you dodge the less we others work, if that makes any sense. So please stop dodging and be seen :)

What's your story?

Have you worked on a project yet this year? Did you rub elbows with anyone, have a funny moment, etc. Please share here in this blog. Or if you want to vent this is your outlet here, but hopefully it's all positive.

The Mark Ruffalo Stand In Story Continues...

Well from a couple of weeks ago I had mentioned thatI had lost the stand-in job for Mark Ruffalo on Ashcliffee because I was 2 inches too short. Well I guess the other guy didn't work so they called me in. Well I just came back after 13.5 hoursand let me say what an experience! I mean working on a scorsese set is something else, in my eyes it's not your typical set..it strickly business no room for failure. So it was a great education , great crew , and nice people. Mark Ruffalo is by far on on the most down-to-earth guys you will ever meet, and I respect him for that. As far as the continueation of this job they have to try another guy tommorrow and we will se who has the job next week I guess. It's all about....what do you think it's about....it's about 2 inches in height.

Actor's Websites do they work?

Honestly I really don't think they do, now I'm not say that at 100%. What I am saying is I have yet to hear anyone that had recieved work or even an audition from them. Now that might change when this type of promotion gets a little more main stream. But the only way I ever get work or people that I know get work is the old fashion way....headshot submission. Just my opinion if your acting website work for you please let us know.

One of the nicest casting directors in Boston

Angela Peri is by far one of the best people in this business. I have worked for Angela and I also consider myself an old friend from the begining. This person pretty much gives everyone a shot and that to me is very important. She is a person that goes at a very nice way about her business and is very well respected. Inches away from being Mark Ruffalo's Stand In

And I mean that in actuallity, I was called to be Mark Ruffalo's stand in in the Scorsese film "Ashcliffe" based on the book Shutter Island. I was called in where I was competeing for the job with two other guys. After 8 hours all three of us were called in where we were in a room surrounded by people and a very nice Mark Ruffalo and Martin Scorsese. Mark wished us luck and we all stood in a straight line next to Mark and were photographed. I stood on Mark's left side and right there I knew I had lost the job because I could see I was shorter by two inches. Anyhow they thanked us for being flexible and one of the guys that I was competeing with won the job. Nice guy, I wished him luck and headed home. All in all it was a honor to be in a room with Scorsese and got to meet a person such a Mark Ruffalo. Everyone all around were such A+ people, but who knows I might get called for something else. Sometimes you just have to fit the suit.

Any cool photograpgers out there?

Would anyone recommend any good experiences they might have had with a photographer? Especially when it comes to headshots. Please leave your comments and reccomendations so we can share it with our readers:) Thanks:)

A possibility of movie studios here in BOSTON! Too good to be true?!

When the news came out yesterday about movie moguls coming to beacon hill on the possibility of building a movie studio in Plymouth. I almost choked on my popcorn! I have heard this rumor here and there but I didn't really imagine it was going to happen. Guys, if this goes through this will be the beginning of something very special. Think about the work this will come to this state, this place will officially be "Hollywood East". Gone will be the days of "when will they film here in Boston" or " All the projects are going to Canada" . With the way things have been since last January were looking pretty good! So cross you fingers everybody and pray for the best. .

Cameron Diaz 3. Dustin Hoffman 3. Kate Hudson 4. Forrest Whittker 5. Matt Damon 6. John Travolta 7. Jeff Bridges 8. Dane Cook 9. William H. Macy 10 Keith Carradine

Stand-In Work Is A Pretty Good Thing...

I just recieved an e-mail asking me what I thought about stand-in work? I think it's a great thing for several reasons. First you will be working multiple days, maybe the whole shoot (which means great money!) Second you might get a line. I have seen this happen on a couple of sets. If the stand in is doing the whole shoot the director gets used to him or her and then sometime gives them a line just for "filler" in the scene. Lastly and this is if you are lucky, you get to know the actor you are standing in for a little bit more. This all depends on who the actor is and how long you will be standing in for him / her for. The longer you work the better the chance. Now some people saying you won't be seen in the movie. This is true but bottom line is we are working and the longer the duration of work we get the better. If you have some stand-in work stories and you would like to share please do:) Have a nice weekend!

Scorsese Has Arrived!!

The man has arrived back to his Oscar winning state, to start filming Shutter Island. Reports indicate he and Leo arrived Wed. so cameras are set to roll in the next couple of weeks. Actually I just finished the book a few weeks ago and let me tell you guys something....simply an amazing story. If Marty can transform that book into his movie magic, then I see gold in his future. IF you have not picked the book up, do so it's by Dennis Lehaen and is a much different story than Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River by a mile!!! So get ready for the calls people because the Scorsese invasion has begun!! Awesome!

Do Not Get SCAMED By These So Called Entertainment Agencies!

Once in a while you drive in your car and you hear an ad saying "Only this Saturday a well respected entertainment agency will be holding auditions for major films and tv shows." So now what happens a bunch of hopefulls jam this hotel function hall where this agency is to hold these "auditions". Truth is they are there for your money. What they will say is something on the lines of this "your good but you should be taking these types of classes we offer and take these types of professional photos we offer. Because you have a Brad Pitt or Sandra Bullock type of talent." So what happens the individuals hear those movie stars names and the next thing they know they are reaching for their credit card. STOP!!!!!! IT'S A SCAM!!!! They use those names as bait to sucker you into take their 6 week basic acting class for $1400 and their "photo shoot" for another $2,000 +! What is the end result....nothing, you still have to battle for roles ju

What was your favorite Boston movie set?

It's survey time folks and today's survey is "what is your all time favorite Boston movie set you ever worked on and why?" We all have our favorites for various reasons the actors, the crew, the food, you name it we have our reasons. So please share your experience:)

You mean now I have to take YOUR acting classes to even audition for a role?!?

Now I'm not saying takeing acting classes are bad, as a matter of fact it's a great thing to take to further your craft. BUT to take acting classes in order to be considered for auditions for major productions and comercials, well my friends that is a WHOLE different story. There is no reason why anyone should "buy their way into an audition in order to be considered for a major audition." It's just wrong. Now this is be going on for sometime for what I understand by some casting agents. Sure the casting agents are our door to opportunity to getting "the gig" but not to pay our way in. All actors should have an equal opportunity to audition for a role have taken that casting director's acting class or not. I would consider this the nice version of the casting couch.

First Film Out of The Gate in 2008 Has BEGUN!!

If you do work on this project please letjavascript:void(0) Publish Post us know and what you thought:)

The End Of Movie Set Cliques...

I was on a set just recently and was talking to another actor. He was telling about a time where there actually a movie set clique here in Boston (mind you we are talking about "extras") where they bullied their way on set. Now after describeing them to me, I remembered who they were. They acted as if they were the cats meow "extra moviestars" if you will. So in other words if you were working on a set and had some camera time, one of these guys would talk with someone and suddenly you were swaped with them. (But they were waaayyyyy in the back not seen) How does that happen? Well at a time it did, but I haven't seen them recently so maybe someone spoke up. Look we are all there to work, and it is really the luck of the draw as to where you are placed on the set. Some days we are lucky and some days we are not, but that's how the business is. But the last thing we need is on set politicking via "extras", I think that's a little abusrd

Stage Parents. do not force the issue.

Look I am a parent and I see certain things in my son that says that kid's has talent. Not in this industry but possibly in construction and oddly enough cooking. Even though I might see it and I can make him recognize it, it doesn't mean I am going to force it on him if he doesn't want to do it. When it comes to this industry...man it is annoying at times. I was on a set not too long ago where it was just a typical long day. There were kids ranging from 10 to 15yrs old, and they really didn't get to work until the 9th hour per say. Now in the morning it was all exciting that they were on a movie set, and all that stuff. But eventually they got bored and wanted to leave, the parents were not having any of that. Sad. The parent indicated they they were to stay and wait no matter how long it takes because you are "talented". This kid was so upset that it caused a huge scene. Eventually someone finally spoke up and just said "don't force the iss

Don't Bother The Actors While Working On A Set.

I have been on many sets working and enjoying the opportunity of doing this on the side for the past 18 years. As some people know that have done this for sometime, the golden rule is not to talk to the actors. Look, when you are working on a movie set everyone there is just doing that and that is working. So when it comes to some "big time" actors they do not want to be bothered because they really have a responsibilty to hold a movie, simply leave them alone. But what amazes me is that there are times when people have the balls to go right up to the movie star and ask them "Hi, how are you doing? By the way how's your mother?!?!" who they heck in there right mind would do that! Amazingly enough the actress was kind and responded with a suttle "she's doing fine" and left it at that. But if she wanted to I am sure she could have been rude but she wasn't, which shows us what kind of person she is. Then there are those other actors / mov

BRUCE WILLIS TO BOSTON!

Bruce willis will be filming a movie in town called "The Surogates" sometime this spring or summer. The plot description given by IMDB: Set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, a cop (Willis) is forced to leave his home for the first time in years in order to investigate the murders of others’ surrogates. sounds pretty cool just wondering how they would make a science fiction here in Boston makes me scratch my head. But now with CGI anything is possible. Hey, if they can make Pink Panther 2 that the majority of the film was filmed here in Boston look like Paris, I am sure it will be no problem. Can't wait for the call on that!!

Extras Are Not Principles

Most of you know I am sure of www.imdb.com aka internet movie database. which is the end all be all of movie information of movies past , current and future. Well what has been happening as of late is that under movies that have filmed in Boston actors that were extras have listed their names and photos under the principles list. This one action that has been going on the past 24 months has led a division line right down the middle of the new england actor community. The debate is extras should not list their names under the principles list. My opinion is I agree with them. If you were working as a background performer in a film you really have no business listing your name under the credits. As a recent 2nd assistant director from a major feature film that was just here stated and I quote " if your name is not going to be on the end credits, your name should not be on the imdb under the cast of that film" If you said "boo" in the movie and were paid for it
