Shortage of people vs. work?

Lately as I am sure we have all noticed there are more and more calls for work especially back ground work. Now I a pretty surprised as to how much demand there is compared to supply, so why is this the case? Could it be the money vs. time on the set? could it be some people have real jobs?, who knows but there is absolutely a shortage. What amazes me even more is there is such an over abundance of actors in this city. In the end there is a lot more openings on these projects. So when you get a call and you can make it please do, because when the demand leaves us, it might not be as rosey.

Other than open calls, I haven't been getting anything. I'm assuming it's because I am non-union and just not what they're looking for. But it's getting a bit tiresome to see an e-mail from Boston Casting and to have it just be an ad for Agency Pro.

I agree with anonymous' response earlier... I am signed up for most of them I think (?) and have not gotten anything lately... just agency pro.

yeah here too. I havent gotten any emails lately just the ones that want you to pay for agency pro. I used to get them all the time and now nothing.

I've signed up for a lot of background work on Agency call, through the availability check. I only got work once! I am on the free Agency Pro. I refuse to pay for something that should be free! They get a percent of what you you make!

Work is slow and it looks like it will be that way for a lot longer. Once SAG finalizes a deal it's then gonna take time for the studios to move projects forward. So I can see it being slow for another year, then it might get back to being busy like it was early this year with 5 or 6 projects going at a time. I'd suggest people get real jobs right about now if you don't already have 1. Oh yea, and think twice before risking your real job for 1 day of EXTRA work!

I couldn't agree more with anonymous...lol..
anyway I haven't been called for anything either. So much for being promised more work for coming in on time, staying late, and actually showing up everytime I was needed. All this with a full time job and 4 kids to feed!
SO, there is no shortage of extras they just need to ask the right people!

its tougher when you are non union to get cast bc they have to hire so many union b4 nons...AND you dont have to pay for the agency pro to get calls...
some BC employees will even tell you you dont have to activate it, its useless! they can view your stuff no matter what, and submit you for jobs...dont give up, just work on trying to build your resume up and maybe you will get cast more?!

To the person who said "some much for being promised more work for being on time...", etc. you have to take that with a grain of salt. I think with most, when you leave for the day you're one of a large group that go out of sight out of mind. I worked on The Game Plan and one of the last days in the cold at the stadium those in line checking out after the long day were thanked and it was promised that "you won't be forgotten and each and everyone of you will be at the top of the list for the next projects". Needless to say, I've only worked through Boston Casting twice so far and the Game Plan was one. I've worked on a list of others since then through the other offices. I think at the moment there is some sincereity but once we've all left, the majority are no more considered than anyone else who applies.
