People agreeing to work and not showing up.

I was on a project yesterday (Mall Cop) which was a nice experience and worked with nice people. What amazed some people is that there were a few no-shows, what I had said to them is don't be too surprised because this happens more than you think. When that happens that screws a lot of people up first the production because they are expecting their numbers for that day, and people that actually wanted to work that day. So if you can't make it on that project for any reason please call the casting director the day prior so they can fill in your spot. It's the best thing you can do in that situation to still be good with the casting directors and the production.

Carolyn Pickman is quoted as saying, "IF I BOOK YOU AND YOU DON'T SHOW UP....YOU'RE DEAD IN MY BOOKS!"

Meaning don't expect her to book you ever again. And these casting agents talk to each other and you may find yourself blacklisted of you don't show up. Don't accept the booking if you can't do it or at least call and say you can't make it.

I personally saw a lot of people get turned away last time I worked. I would imagine if people werent turned away after signing on and agreeing to be there it might not happen. A simple sorry after some people drive for hours to get there without compensation simply isnt enough.

I worked on Ghosts of Girlfriends Past yesterday. I met a woman who thought she had booked Mall Cop for Monday, went there, and was turned away. They said that unless you got a phone confirmation that you arent booked...I think there is alot of confusion. I worked the 1st day, Monday, March 24, it was ok, I signed on for another day, March 31, but I never heard back from anyone on that day.

I was there on 4/24 as well. Yes, people were turned away! It was sad. Then they went in the Mall and hired real shoppers to be extras.

After they turned away people on 03-24, I got an e-mail from boston casting looking for 18-30 year olds...I am not sure of the ages of the people turned away....

I am being flooded with mail labeled "EXTRA WORK"... so ... let's try again ...

C.P. CASTING is *NOT* casting *ANY* background EXTRAS in ANY movies filming, or about to start filming in the Boston area. [I'd rather have a root canal...]

As a courtesy, below, I will refrence the websites of the various extras casting people who ARE casting background extras currently:

I have done extra work here for the last five years, and I cannot imagine extras being turned away if they were legitimately booked. I am confident that it was THEIR confusion due to lack of understanding how this works. We are going to have a huge problem in Boston now with non-actors trying to get in these movies and they don't know what they heck they are doing. On one day of Mall Cop I did hear about people who "just showed up" and were pissed that they couldn't be in the movie -- more than likely these are the ones who are whining now. Boston casting directors have been very much on-the-level and professional, and it is the unprofessional inexperienced extras who want to be famous who are mucking things up. That's what I see is most likely happening.

Wrong, a lot of us emailed talent pro and they said we were signed up and then they never mentioned anything about having someone call you and said just come on down once you get the confirmation email you were all set and should be on the list. I came down and wasted 30 minutes getting over there thinking I was On the list and found out I wasn't . I never had this problem with the game plan set . This was for Mall Cop. A few people in the group did not originally sign up with agency pro and just came down on their own but some of us including myself signed up with talent/agency pro and were told to come on down in email and that it was confirmed we'd be on the list. And then we were turned away because they were "Full" and placed on a wait list. I was furious and called up Boston Casting and emailed Angela and luckily she couldn't believe what happened either and gave me a shot and said I could work in a couple days . So I got to work on the set of Mall Cop and everything was fine but I do know one guy who also signed up through agency pro who left the set frustrated who had driven all the way from Manchester NH. With the cost of gas prices, it is simply unacceptable that they can let some people "sneak in" who weren't officially on the list and fill up the list, and then they can't accept 40 more people because they made a mistake? Its ridiculous .A Mall scene you need a lot of people and they could have made a couple exceptions and let us 40 people in who got screwed. Luckily I was able to work and had a blast on the set of Mall Cop, even got within 2 feet of Kevin james, he nearly ran me over with the segway and I had to jump out of the way as he exited a scene so he could turn around :P
It was cool. Kevin james is a super cool dude and laughs and jokes around on the set. He seems to be an easy going guy but don't just walk up and shake his hand. Its against the rules of extra work. Its fun to watch him tho on set. You def. know when he's in the zone and such just before they say action, etc. and when he's more laid back. Its fun to watch what goes on between shots, etc. to and the communication between the crew. Kudos to the P.A.'s too they had a tough job keeping people from gawking at the set and taking pics and such and it must be a tough job to do the same thing over and over again for 12 hours + a day and get little thanks. Kudos to the PA's . Overall Boston Casting is one of the better companies, it was just a little mixup at the Mall Cop set that let some people who weren't supposed to work in and some of us who were scheduled never got phone calls or what not and we were supposed to. --I forgive you Boston Casting :) vzfdd

LOL If accepting the booking was the only issue I ever had with extras casting I'd work in every film in the Boston area. The problem is getting them to select you as an extra :P

especially for a big film like Surrogates or Ashecliffe.

I was willing to play a soldier but they never picked me.

And I was an extra in the Game Plan and mall cop. I know plenty about extra work thank you very much..

And I'm not whining I just think they could have handled the sign up process better, like told you that someone would be calling and actually have them call. Instead of email you a confirmation that says come on down you're all set!!!! and then you come at 5am and you can't work.
