Leave the extra work behind and go for roles..

The whole idea about this thing we do is going for parts. If we continue to do extra work we will be extras for life. Always remember most major actors might have done an extra job here or there but they mostly went for the throat and did non-stop auditioning. The same holds true for us, if you want to succeed in this business, you go for the roles. But it's really not here in Boston, you have to make the sacrifice and go to NYC or LA. So if you have no responsibilites and can do it GO FOR IT!

How do we get auditions with the casting directors in Boston? How do we get auditions with people like Caroline Pickman who is cufrrently casting most of the principal roles in Boston?

Also is it true that if you show up for an audition at CPCasting uninvited even if you called, you get blacklisted by Caroline Pickman?

I heard a rumor that Carolyn only considers people that she gets to see in action - that is through taking one of her classes.
She told me us in a seminar that sometimes she finds people that are recommended - or by seeing someone in a theatrical performance.
Good Luck!
Yes, I've also heard that its good to take a class with a Casting Director, that way that can see what you have.

I think it's really tough to get an audition here for the major films. CP Casting seems to handle most of them and hardly any extra work, if any at all now. Versus a year ago when they were handling a good amount of extra work too.
I've heard about Carolyn only considering people she sees through her classes too. I have to wonder because I've heard it quite a few times myself but I can't say it's absolutely true or not. I wouldn't be surprised though. It makes some sense even though more should be considered. There's a lot of talent out there.
I think it is true that you could get blacklisted if you show up uninvited to an audition. I heard that mention from someone there so I think there's truth in that. I wouldn't say it would happen 100% of the time but there seems to be enough truth to it to make it too risky to do. You don't want to be blacklisted around here when it's such a small community

Shame on casting directors for blacklisting people who show up at auditions 'univited'! Shame on them for forcing people to take their expensive classes in order to get an invitation. DISGUSTING! This biz is not fair.

As far as showing up univited, you can't totally fault them for frowning on that. They wouldn't want a corwd of people just showing up that they didn't take a look at themselves beforehand. They may have a certain look they are after and have certain criteria from the director. Afterall, they don't broadcast those auditions to everyone for a reason. They want what they are interested in. It's not a casting call, it's an unlisted audition.

I do agree with the opinion on favoring those who take classes there. I can see why that's done because they are learning through them and they see their work first hand ahead of time. But it should be more open. It's like a lot of things, it's not always what you know, it's who you know. But that's not to say some of those who take the classes and get the roles aren't deserving.
